Chi Gung - meditative stillness in a fast-paced world

Every Tuesday in the Allwell Centre from 6.30 to 7.45pm
£10 per class or £36 monthly

Chi Gung is the art and practice of internal energy development, specifically the energy (or chi) associated with health and wellbeing.  It serves many of the same functions as Tai Chi, but its movements are generally fewer and easier to learn.  This makes it suitable to learn for anyone regardless of his or her physical ability.  The core foundation practise taught at the Allwell Centre is Standing Chi Gung.

Why Standing Chi Gung?

Standing Chi Gung teaches a number of important attributes that significantly enhance Chi Gung practise.  These include the ability to relax through softness rather than forced stretching, structural alignments that aid soft tissue release, and basic breathing methods and core energetic practises that enhance the development and ability to store and move chi. Once these elements have become stabilised to some degree in the body it is much easier for a beginner to shift into moving energetic practises, whether they be more advance Chi Gung sets or Tai Chi.

What can Chi Gung do for You?

Chi Gung is an important antidote to the high stress environment of the Western world.  It can allow you to connect in a very real way with your body giving you important strategies to deal with the many pressures of modern life. Importantly it allows you to relax and release energy blockages that can lead to future ‘dis-ease’ and illness.

Chi Gung programmes at the Allwell Centre

The Foundations in Chi Gung Course is the core beginners’ programme taught in the centre.  It lasts eight weeks, but there is also a weekly drop-in class.  While participation in the Foundations Course is not a prerequisite for attendance in the weekly class, it is highly recommended that you attend it at some time in your first year of learning Chi Gung.  Over the coming year a number of more advances Chi Gung sets will be taught at the Centre.
